The Pema Ts’al Sakya Monastic Institute is based upon a sound academic curriculum of both traditional Tibetan and modern subjects, supervised by qualified teaching and support personnel. The vital institutional support for Pema Ts’al is provided by the great living traditions, skills, and spiritual achievements embodied in the ancient Sakya order of Tibetan Buddhism, under the guidance of His Holiness the Sakya Trizin. Lama Kunga Dhondhup (pictured) is the monastery's principal.
The primary objectives of the Pema Ts’al Sakya Monastic Institute are:
- To provide free education and complete care for the Tibetan children of the most destitute families in Mustang through traditional monastic training combined with modern education.
- To create a model for the community, where education is highly valued by providing a better opportunity for learning through discipline, dedication and hard work.
- To inspire an awakening among the community to preserve its cultural identity and ethical values in this changing world.
- To awaken a consciousness in the heart of the students as they will be a responsible part of the larger community and uplift all humanity through prayers and blessings.
- To establish this institution in all fields of study as the future Mustang University.
We now have 79 resident monks at our school and 7 teaching staff members.
Sponsorship is $35.00 a month or $420.00 a year.
